Congratulations to W. Amos racing yard and his race horses . . .

We were absolutely delighted to hear that W. Amos Racing yard has had three more winner since our visit a few months ago. But what means more to us is the little chestnut, who was really quite despondent, has picked up and is in light work . . . this is brilliant news. Keep up the tlc one and all but but more importantly, thank you Willie for giving this individual a chance.

Philippines -Typhoon Haiyan Disaster - do we really appreciate how lucky we are . . .

Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Disaster.

Everyone, whether from rich or not so rich backgrounds, can go to events welcoming adults and children based on raising money for specific Funds, or troubled areas  and all put in and support what they are able in the hope that enough money can be raised to make a difference to the sufferers.

Thanks to the amount of organisational skills of many individuals these events are usually always worthwhile attending if nothing else but for raising money as well as the number of fun activities, raffles, auctions/silent auctions and fun that is generally had by all with the added bonus of all stomachs usually being well fed and watered. For most attendees they are aware that such events are for a good cause. But our question is do they fully appreciate what it is like to live in such turmoil as the areas that they are supporting on the day? For children who attend, they probably go along because it could be  a family event, or perhaps there is not another option but are the children actually aware of what the evening is for, apart from having fun.

On occasions we are asked to create or paint such things as murals or to create something that is specific to the event, but what we prefer to do is something that is more visually thought provoking for the cause in hand. In this instance we decided to create the back drop of a small mural, where the scene was 'factual, eye opening and heart rendering'. As an addition to this board we had two blank ones asking for 'new homes to be painted and favourite foods and drinks' to be added to the other so that all involved could think what it must be like not to have either or anything apart from being surrounded by a mass of rubble  as well as dreadfully heart wrenching sights of dead bodies who were unlucky enough not to survive the natural disaster and sadly the remaining survivors are without food or safe water to drink. Whilst painting this with the children there was a massive silence amongst them, a thoughtful silence, a sad silence that almost took them in to the middle of the painting.

How many people genuinely feel or know the pain or what such a disaster can bring for the individuals left behind, who often end up without their relatives and friends at hand. Well, participating in the mural itself was enough to provoke a childs thought pattern but to make the adults think more about the cause being  supported we managed to come across a poem written by Alon Calinao  Dy and a separate quote which we wrote on to the sky of the background of the mural and would now like to share them with you  . . . .

Super Typhoon Haiyan

Why have you swept away our city Taclaban?
Why have you killed thousands of our countrymen?
including innocent children and women?

Look what you have done!
Complete devastation with no food and water
You have taken them one by one.
Why did you need to slaughter them?

Why do you have to show the world you're the deadliest?
Why do you come and bring us many tears?
Don't you know we're born as warriors without fears.

You have destroyed all our towns and cities
You have exposed our fight against irregularities
and now we have nothing left
But only allies who've helped us their very best
Alon Calinao Dy

Thank you Typhoon Haiyan for allowing survivors,
for the debris which we will use,
for the trees you kindly left standing,
for the animals and birds you kindly left behind
though scared and scarred.
For those of us you left behind we will survive . . . .

As an added bonus regarding the mural, the children read out the poem and quote during the evening . . . . you could almost have heard a pin drop . .  and the goosebumps rising on each arm or back bone.
The total raised for this disaster on the evening was something near £1600 - how tremendous was that. .  so a huge congratulations to those who organised it.

But one of the most heartwarming things was one of the Ministers who attended the event chose to read out part of the poem as well as the full quote at the Sunday service the next day. You could see the heads tilting with thoughts of sadness . . . self realisation of how lucky they are perhaps  . . . . . thank you Margaret and Milton for spreading the word further afield that there are truly millions of people (and animals) worse off than ourselves . . . and how grateful we should feel for all or how ever little we have.

Horses mourn just like other animals

Horses do mourn - just like an elephant mourns

It's always a sad time when an animal has to be put down, not only for the humans who have known and cared for them but also for all the animals left behind.

On a number of occasions we have been asked the question ' will my other horse, horses or animals feel the loss', the answer is absolutely yes, particularly if they have been part of a pack or herd for a number of years. Horses are very similar to elephants, they mourn, need time to smell the ground, need time to adjust, and if it is a mare that has been lost then the boys left behind, within a 24 or 36 hour period, if given the chance, ask another mare to take the lead.

If this is not possible, then you may need to fill the gap for a while, by leading them (rope free) in to their field or further away in their field to graze. However, they will, often be seen going back to smell the ground or the the area where the horse was put down. They share a similar grieving process to elephants.

The photo's below are fairly self explanatory but give you an example of the movement in horses left behind after a death.

The other thing we would like to mention is if a horse or cow or elephant has an internal health issue, you will often find that he/she starts to distance her/himself from the herd, probably over a period of a few months or weeks . . . so if you notice this then keep an eye on everything the animal does i.e.

  1. It's eating pattern
  2. It's eyes
  3. It's coat
  4. It's belly size
  5. It's muscle mass
  6. It's toilet habits
  7. It's lying down habits
  8. It's general body langauge
  9. It's interaction with the other horses/animals
  10. How much or little he/she drinks
Below are a few photographs in various stages :

1 Midge, one of our adorable horses, a few days before she was put down

2 Our little Shetland seen here smelling the ground where she lay down for the last time.

3 One of the other horses around the blanket used to allow our mare to lie down on as she collapsed to the ground.

3 The two of them smelling the rug

4 The next day the boys asking another mare to take Leadership . .

After this sad day, they still turn round thinking that she's there, perhaps she is in spirit . . .but their calling becomes less frequent.

The horses have a routine and the same applies to feeding times as well as going in and out of their stable and it is only now that the herd left behind have adjusted to her lack of presence -  and the lack of the toadie faces she used to pull if they ever went any where near HER stable.

One of the ponies, still thinks he should wait until she is in her stable before he goes in . . .

So the message in here is really - never underestimate the animals left behind feelings.

On occasions it has been known, this is if a single horse is left - that something as simple as some of the mane or tail hair and the rugs owned by the horse you have lost, as well as a painting on the wall or one of these long plastic mirrors (where the remaining horse can see himself ) can ease the pain and upset . . . although nothing will ever replace that one horse  . . . . there can be substitutes but never will they find one with the same antics.

Although Cattle are seen more as a money making scheme, they also feel the loss, but because they are in a herd, generally a larger herd than horses are kept in, they soon latch on to another cow to fill that void.

If you have an animal left behind that is going through a grieving process and doesn't seem to be getting out of it, please, please contact us so that we can communicate with him/her to tell you what THEY would like. . .  on behalf of many who have not been given this chance but wish they had been. . . . thank you.

Chicken alert and . . . . . . .

As most of you will know by now for a number of years we have been working with individuals (for the sake of our Radio Host, Jackie Walker from Natural Health Radio Live - - humans and animals) part of this work relates to individuals specific chemical balances and food stuffs as well as liquids that can have a negative effect on them. Although we have realised for a while that chickens from certain places are negative the kind of information discovered yesterday 'THESE ARE "FREE RANGE" CHICKENS. This is a terrible new invention. This foam suffocates 15,000 chickens in 15 minutes. It's an American invention by Kifco, a manufacturer of irrigation equipment in Illinois"
above totally confirms that many individuals do not have a clue what these birds are fed on, injected with or indeed culled by . . . all these three products can indeed have a detrimental effect on any thing that consumes it. For the sake of your chemical balance, you may think that all chickens from each store are the same . . . they are not, so be careful or ask for guidance and we will guide you or train you to understand how you can tell what is good for you or what is not . . . if everyone in the world realised this and only bought what was good for them, then it would not be a producers market it would be the people's market. For example, if all of a sudden these particular chickens or the 'negative chickens were not bought then the producers/market buyers would have no option but to take them off the market . . The absolute same goes for your dog food/your horse food/your cattle and sheep feed. One scary think we came across the other day that might be of interest - did you know that 'humans are not fit for consumption' but the question has to be . . why . .. because what we eat is 'supposedly consumable' . .. now then there's a good question.

Here's to healthy humans, and not humans who suffer from  unnecessary  diseases due to what we either eat or drink.

And another little Asian Elephant -

We are delighted to announce we have been given another little Asian elephant to look in to . .

This elephant also used to be in a circus - it's great to see her not tied to dreaded chains and being able to wander 'on grass' and not on concrete 24/7.

We, like most, would just like to see her filled out a bit more.

We will forward you an update in due course.
